problem space
Moving out is an emotional time for anyone, let alone a young adult with not a great deal of life experience. My problem started as a personal one, how can I support my own young adults to move out in a way that they will want to listen and take advice, not an easy task... through the learning of the UX/UI design process this evolved into so much more than I could have anticipated, my mind has been opened!
the goal
Develop a solution that will support young adults through the moving out process. To communicate in a way that young adults will listen to and take advice through the ups and downs of life out of home.

PROBLEM STATEMENT 1
Teenagers and young adults feel confused and overwhelmed in knowing where to start to find all relevant information when wanting or needing to move out of home or live independently
what I did - research
First step was formative research, starting with an online survey we targeted both parents and young adults through the most appropriate channels for each demographic - social media.
I completed a competitor analysis to have a better understanding of what already exists in this space.
What I found was a lot of great info, mainly from the government sector but nothing that was relatable for our user or their problems.
These insights allowed a more indepth dive into this research with more targeted questions. I conducted 1:1 interviews with 2 parents and 4 young adults on zoom. These produced some really interesting insights especially from the young adults point of view.

what I analysed
Looking at the data from the perspective of our user through affinity and empathy mapping allowed insights into themes and problems and we can empathise with their journey including their pains and gains.
PROBLEM STATEMENT 2
Young adults are overwhelmed and stressed in finding all relevant information, being prepared and understanding the process when wanting to move out and then navigating the issues once they have moved out.

what the research defined - pain points
Finding information that they could relate to
Budgeting and finances and how to stay on top
Being prepared before they move out
Having everything in the one easy to use place
Living with others - flatmate choices and best practices
Being able to ask Qs of people in the same position

developing ideas
I held an ideation workshop with 7 Grace's for what became a fun afternoon of really good ideas and possible solutions for this problem space.
"How might we ensure Grace has access to all of the information to make informed decisions" was unanimously voted for as it was considered to be the most important at all 3 stages of Grace's journey.

the solution
Looking at the Information architecture I created a simple user flow to get Grace to our video information page, the main task. We tested and Grace likes the quick and easy information style of Tik Tok. So to bring her to the App directly from there was the most logical step.

how the solution delivered
85%
said the Budget Tracker would be the best feature
97%
said they would definitely use the app
85%
said the features worked really well and would be useful
97%
really liked the aesthetics and the user flow
next steps
-
Further enhancements and features could be researched, tested and added
-
Look into linking to bank account for accurate financial positions
-
A feature that allows Grace to lock away money once it has been saved for a bill
-
A document wallet that contains all of Grace's forms etc
-
A chat/forum feature for open questions
-
Look into commercial viability and possible collab with a company such as ubank
